Painting a Typical RGS Water Tank
Brown Tank
I was experimenting with my airbrush one night trying to come up with the perfect paint job on my model of the Brown Tank.  This article explains the process and presents the results.

The roof was lightly airbrushed with different wood colours and boxcar reds. I used a PBL scratch tool in between coats. I then used chalks to add cinders and dust. A final coat of dullcote locked it all together.

For the tank, I sprayed it different wood colours. Then the upper tank portions were sprayed different boxcar red colours while I roughed in the shaped of the peeled paint. I used stencils with v-shaped and square shaped notches of different sizes for painting in the peeled paint weathered section. I used lots of light layers. When I was most of the way through the process, I brush painted the tank bands. Then more light stencil streaks were sprayed over the tank bands to make then not so harsh looking.

The tank details were brushed painted. Some chalks and mostly airbrushing was used to add rust, etc. I also brush painted some glosscote in spots to make it look like water leaks.
