A Closer Look at High Side Gondola
Number 1083

General Information

This gondola is in excellent shape with the exception of the floor which is almost universally bad in these cars. The sides show moderate wear with about the average number of split stakes installed. The most interesting part of the car is the flat floor with the metal patches. Another unique aspect, but not nearly as obvious, are the one-piece outer corner plates on both sides of the "A" end. The corner plates on the outside of the "B" end and on the inside are of the normal configuration. With the exception of the flat floor this is a very common car and a good place to start. The painted surfaces of this car lead me to believe that the paint on the body is original. There is no paint on the side boards where the tops of stakes are cut off but it does look like there is paint under the extension stakes installed beside them.
