A Closer Look at High Side Gondola
Number 1217

General Information

This gondola is in excellent shape with the exception of the paint which is almost nonexistent. The sides show heavier wear with all but two of the stakes of the split variety. The one triple split stake is unusual and not very often seen. The wooden blocks bolted to the inside of the car are also unusual and have no apparent purpose. This car is a good example of the type of repairs done to the side boards and stakes. The long vertical grab iron on the "B" end is missing, but this probably occurred after the car left the Grande, as it is now in violation of FRA regulations.
