High Side Gondola Number 1484

General Information

This car is for the most part typical of the nine stake cars. The inside corner plates on the "A" end consist of two single board plates at the bottom and a three board plate at the top. The corner plates at the "B" are the normal single board at the bottom with the four board plate at the top. One of the right side boards and two of the left ones are spliced, and there are several short wooden blocks nailed to the "B" end floor. High side gondolas were often used to transport loads normally seen on flat cars, and it is not uncommon to find wooden blocks nailed to the floor to help secure a load at some time in the past. This car is without trucks and is sitting on the ground.
