Here is the train crossing bridge 45a, now on the return trip to Ridgway. The scar running across the mountain in the background is the still existing road to Illium. Today, if you stop your car where this road joins the highway, get out and look down the embankment, you will find that you are only 20 feet or so above the remains of the upper bridge abutment of 45a. I highly recommend you climb down and explore the remains of this bridge, which are scattered about the valley floor. For pictures of these remains, please visit the first issue of this web page.
