Van Hobbies - Canadian Pacific D10 4-6-0 This is a typical 1970s Van Hobbies, Samhongsa built, locomotive. It came stock with an open frame motor and fairly decent diecast gearbox. The stock gearbox was pretty good in its day, but doesn't compare to a NWSL replacement. There cab is of the open type so the motor is slightly visible. This locomotive was upgraded with a NWSL gearbox, torque arm drivetrain and coreless motor. NOTE: This is a really poorly manufactured locomotive. The worst I've seen of the Van Hobbies engines. The tender wheels are pressed on out of center. I replaced them with NWSL wheels. The drivers wobble due to poor manufacturing. The tender truck bolsters are badly designed and allow the tender to rock from side to side. A lot of lead needs to be added to the cab to get it to track well since by its very nature and the design of model steamers, all the factory weight is over the pilot truck which makes it badly off balance. (Sorry I forgot to take pictures before returning it to its owner.)
