Milepost 49.1 TROUT LAKE Elev. 9,802 Once again, the railway needed to add distance to the line in order to keep the ruling grade to Lizard Head at a "manageable" 3.5%. They chose to build a loop of track around Trout Lake and constructed bridge 51-A to cross the Lake Fork of the San Miguel River. Trout Lake is merely a passing siding and a much needed water stop.
My model of Trout Lake mimics in the prototype with a passing siding, water tank, trestle and a whole lot of mountain scenery dwarfing the line to Lizard Head pass.
Watch out for those sheep! Fall at Trout Lake Approaching Trout Lake Approaching the water tank Leaving Trout Lake Still Leaving Trout Lake
