Milepost 49.1 TROUT LAKE Elev. 9,802

Once again, the railway needed to add distance to the line in order to keep the ruling grade to Lizard Head at a "manageable" 3.5%.  They chose to build a loop of track around Trout Lake and constructed bridge 51-A to cross the Lake Fork of the San Miguel River.  Trout Lake is merely a passing siding and a much needed water stop.
My model of Trout Lake mimics in the prototype with a passing siding, water tank, trestle and a whole lot of mountain scenery dwarfing the line to Lizard Head pass.

Watch out for those sheep!
